I had already said yes to these things, so when an offer of something else came in, there wasn’t room.
No. Author and businessman, Harvey Mackay, has said, "One of the greatest truths in life is that "no" is a complete sentence." I’ve also heard that ‘No’ is simply the opposite of ‘Yes’. No is the word that will protect your self-care.
Unless you say no, your time will be taken with the needs and desires of those around you.
Yet saying no requires discipline, discipline that enables you to be a good steward of your time. And this stewardship leads to excellence. Think elite athletes like: Michael Phelps, Tom Brady, Simone Biles. The discipline of saying no trains you to develop self-control, character, orderliness, and efficiency. All of which will breathe life into your self-care. I recall my friend deciding to train for a triathlon. She had three young children at home, and was concerned about taking the time necessary to train properly. Yet when I followed up with her a month into her training, she beamed! Even though it took discipline to make time for training, she said when she got done with a workout she found “I have so much more to give!” When she took time for self-care, by saying no to other things, she had more energy for the raising of her children and caring for her home. As I practiced this myself, this truth emerged: You will have to say no to good things, so you can say yes to better things. Let me repeat that: You will have to say no to good things, so you can say yes to better things. Do you need to:
This takes discipline. It takes planning. It’s not easy to prioritize. It’s not easy to say ‘no’. Yet, Momma, it is worth the effort. Because you are a masterpiece. You are beauty, creativity, magnificent, original. Masterpieces need to be cared for. Self-care results in being a better woman, and as a result, a better: wife, mom, daughter, sister, and friend. So say ‘no’ and protect your self-care. © Sanctuary of Home™ All Rights Reserved
