We hold our collective breath. Watching what appears to be one foolish decision after another, we silently root for him, desiring (for ourselves) that this tense scene come to completion. And then, he climbs over the top. He has reached the summit! He looks, breathes, takes in the beauty, the wonder… Until a helicopter appears and shoots a capsule into the rock next to him. “Your mission, if you choose to accept it…this message will self-destruct in 5 seconds.” You may not be Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible 2. Yet choosing to accept your mission can feel like hanging on a precipice, tense, unsure how to get to the summit.
The definition of mission is “a sending out or being sent out with authority to perform a special service.”*
The Lord has made you on purpose, for a purpose. He has chosen the specific time and place in history that you are to live your life. “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Eph 2:10) “From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.” (Acts 17:26-27) The Lord sent Moses to Pharaoh to let the Israelites go. Moses objected to this mission. Who was he to go to Pharaoh? And God said, “I will be with you.” (Ex 3:12) The Lord sent Gideon to save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Gideon objected. How could he save Israel? His clan was the weakest in Manasseh and he the least in his family. The Lord answered, “I will be with you.” (Judges 6:16) You have been sent as a daughter, a wife, a mother, a home maker, a gospel ambassador, and more. Each role likely has a mission of its own that’s tied into the overall mission the Lord has prepared just for you. My personal mission, for example, is in line with our marriage mission, and our home educating vision. They are all connected. Intentionally seeking the Lord regarding your mission can feel like hanging unwisely off a precipice. Will you jump? Unlike Ethan Hunt, who had nothing to secure or hold him if he fell, you have a safety net. His name is, “I AM.” (Ex 3:14) As He said to Moses, and to Gideon, He says to you also, “I will be with you.” The Lord said to Moses to say to the Israelites, “I AM has sent me to you.” Where is I AM sending you? “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit – fruit that will last.” (John 15:16) Over these last few months, you have learned about:
Which one is the Lord asking you to seek and reach out to Him about? Don’t wait. “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Deut 31:8) With the Lord - you can jump. Your mission, if you choose to accept it…. Will you accept it? © Sanctuary of Home™ All Rights Reserved
