It exposes where you trust the Lord, and where you don’t.

If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, your ability to articulate your worldview, and understand that of others, will impact your witness.

The Answers Books for Kids Box Set by Ken Ham with Cindy Malott and Bodie Hodge – This eight-book set covers 22 questions each, regarding such topics as: Creation and the Fall, Dinosaurs and the Flood, God and the Bible, Sin and Salvation, Space and Astronomy, Babel and the Ice Age, Evolution, and Satan and Angels. Each volume answers questions submitted by real children around the world. Succinct, with fun illustrations and photographs, this series is designed for 6-12 years of age.

Case for…Series for Kids by Lee Strobel – Set your children on a firm foundation. With a journalist’s investigation and real-life stories, Strobel answers hard questions of the faith in a readable format. The series includes five books: The Case for Christ for Kids, The Case for Faith for Kids, The Case for a Creator for Kids, The Case for Grace for Kids, and The Case for Miracles for Kids. Aimed at readers aged 8-12 years, some of the real stories are, in my opinion, more appropriate for ages 10+. I recommend reading aloud with your child so you can discuss any questions that arise. ​

The Holy Bible – Read and know Scripture. All other resources are null and void without it. Why? Because every single one has The Holy Bible as its foundation. And if anything in a book does not line up with the truth of The Holy Bible, then the Bible is correct – not the book. To learn counterfeit bills, the Counterfeit Money Detector studies the actual, real bill. He knows it inside and out. Then he can identify that any variance is counterfeit. The same applies here. Know the truth, be able to identify lies. All ages.

How Should We Then Live by Francis Schaeffer – This is my top pick for a book on worldview. It has the best big picture documentation of our slow drift from biblical values. He gives a clear lesson on human history with regard to our view of God and scripture. He examines art, film, and literature to provide objective examples throughout the centuries - especially the 20th Century. Most of us know in our gut that we are drifting in the wrong direction as a country, but it is many times difficult to articulate why. Schaeffer makes it crystal clear and brings all the pieces together. It’s a book best read about 3-5 pages at a time, but is a must read for anyone wanting an accurate view of this current moment. (Ages high school and up.)

Live Not By Lies by Rod Dreher – This is an excellent book which helps set my mindset in a “how do I approach the week” type of way. It’s not human history like Schaeffer’s but it highlights key pieces of the Christian’s approach to freedom, truth, and justice. He advocates for speaking the truth, being courageous and meeting with like-minded people regularly to help support and articulate. Mr. Dreher lived through communism, so he has credibility and knows what matters most to maintain a free country. (Ages high school and up.)

The Fallacy Detective by Nathaniel and Hans Bluedorn – This guides my daily interactions with others in the conversational moment. When someone attacks my perspective or says something that seems false, this book helps me examine their argument for truth. If it is not true, then I have a neat and tidy category to place it in. It provides a vocabulary and conciseness to logically faulty arguments. The authors wrote this in a comic book style which makes it fun and very readable with great stories and examples. There are 31 fallacies and I can easily read 2 or 3 at a time. I spot them in the news, and in marketing all the time now! Also, instead of reacting or staying silent in a situation or in a hard conversation, this helps me break it down quickly and respond with what I want to say. (Ages high school and up.)

In a world that presents more lies and attacks to our faith, I find these an essential part of my
spiritual workout.
