The plot thickens and eventually they need to make a decision:
Are they for each other, or against each other? This is war! A matter of life and death. They determine they are on the same team. As a team they fight together against those who are trying to destroy them. Doesn’t every married couple need to make the same decision this fictional Hollywood couple had to make? Whose team are you on? Are you for your husband? Or against him? There is a war against your marriage.
Ephesians 6:12 states it this way:
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (emphasis mine) The Good News Translation says it this way: “For we are not fighting against human beings…” (Eph 6:12, GNT)¹ Your fight, dear Woman, is not against your husband. Who is it against? Team Satan! Against the rulers, authorities, powers of darkness, and spiritual forces of evil. What are you to do? Scripture gives us the answer: “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” (Eph 6:13) Make your decision. Whose team are you on? Team Satan? Team Jesus? Team ______ (fill in your family name)? The family name of the couple in the Hollywood blockbuster previously described is Smith. By the end of the film, they know whose team they are on: Team Smith. Fighting back-to-back, with the world seemingly against them, they take their stand. They know who they are for: Team Smith. They know who they are against: Everyone/thing trying to destroy Team Smith. Together they fight for each other and for their marriage. In the end, they stand. What about you? Whose team are you on? Is it clear which team you’re against? There is a war against your marriage. Will you stand as a team, back-to-back, with your husband? And fight against those who are fighting to destroy you? Make your decision today. **DISCLAIMER** Despite the references to the 2005 movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith in this blog, I do not recommend it. The pro-marriage theme in it paired well with this blog’s message, which is why I used it. That said, the movie is riddled with sex, and sexual tension and references throughout most scenes. It is also extremely violent. While labeled PG-13, I personally would not allow any 13-year-old I know to watch it. Nor would it edify any adult. The place I am with the Lord now, if I had started watching it, I likely would’ve turned it off. Yet that’s not where I was 20 years ago. God-willing the Lord can use the positive marriage theme in it for good. Please read the Plugged In review on it here, before you consider viewing it. ¹Good News Translation® (Today’s English Version, Second Edition), Copyright © 1992 American Bible Society.
