First Pete went down with the flu, then our son.
After that, our son had pneumonia. It felt like a long stretch, yet it was just the beginning. Throughout that entire time, our daughter was coughing. What began as a benign, common cold type cough continued to worsen in severity and consistency. We took her in. Pertussis. Aka whooping cough. Blast!
On to antibiotics for every member in the family.
The antibiotics make a person no longer contagious, yet they do nothing to affect the symptoms of the cough. Within days, our son had it too, followed about a week later by our other daughter. Days before leaving, we cancelled our trip. Trust. When your plans go awry, will you trust the One who holds them? This was, and continues to be, my challenge. While we were home - instead of on the cruise - our furnace went out. The average nightly low for the four nights we lacked furnace heat was -22°F. Yes, that’s negative. It was the coldest week of the winter season. And we were home, able to heat the house with space heaters, our fireplace, and oven. Trust. I didn’t want this. I’d rather be on a marriage cruise with my husband than in a cold house, with ill children, and a hefty furnace bill. Yet the Lord protected our new house. No busted pipes. No water damage. Everything protected. He knew. We didn’t. Trust. When I looked up the definition in my bible dictionary, it said simply, “see faith”. My favorite definition for faith is, “believing God, and acting on that belief.” Dictionary.com defines trust as “reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence.”* Where is your trust in your Good Father today? Are you confident in Him? I realized through these trials that the Lord took me into a new level of trust in Him. Deeper. Richer. I thought I needed to trust Him to care for my children, and us, while we were apart (on the cruise). Yet I found I had to trust Him for them instead, while I was by their side, supporting them through a coughing fit I could do nothing about. He has sustained me. How is He sustaining you? Dear Momma, this home making, mothering, discipling life requires constant trust in the One who loves you. He went to the cross for you, and continues to hold you in His loving, protective grip. Choose to trust in the Lord, today. Amen. * https://www.dictionary.com/browse/trust © Sanctuary of Home™ All Rights Reserved
