I took a deep breath.
Knowing the way forward, I struggled to offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving. I began to bring to Jesus the to-do list, the ideas, the anxious thoughts. Another deep breath. Peace. The key ingredient to every relationship – as well as every decision, every resolution, and every direction – is your relationship with Jesus. Every human relationship involves two selfish people who want their own way. Jesus is the One who enables you to be selfless, to consider others above yourself, to make the needed sacrifices, to set the difficult boundaries, to courageously admit your wrongs, and to forgive those who have wounded you. Jesus says, “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself, it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me…apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:3, 4b) So how do you build relationship with someone? You spend time with them. Talk with them. Listen to them. Experience life together. Do you do this with Jesus? Do you spend time with Him? Do you read your bible, the Word of God? It is God speaking to you. Do you listen to Him? My mentor’s challenge is to start with five minutes a day. Five. If you don’t have a consistent, daily meeting with the Lord, would you accept this challenge? My homeschool consultant calls it “getting your marching orders for the day.” The Lord specifies no time. He simply wants to be with you. The point is to be consistent, be awake, and be ready - as though you were meeting a friend for coffee. Jesus is the key ingredient to every other relationship. Spend time with Jesus. Do you have a favorite place to meet with the Lord? Please share in the comments. Let’s learn together. *All scripture from THE HOLY BIBLE, NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION®, NIV® Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984, 2011 by Biblica, Inc.® Used by permission. The Lord loves you, Andria. He wants to give you all you need. There is no guilt, shame or condemnation. Simply encouragement to receive His best for you, which is always connected to time with Him and listening to what He says. We know what He says by reading His Word.
